HE’S STAYING: Connor McDavid signs two-year extension with Edmonton Oilers

Exhale. The Edmonton Oilers have officially signed captain Connor McDavid to a contract extension.

The deal is two-years at $12.5M per season, the exact same AAV on his current deal.

This contract is the biggest bargain deal in the NHL and it’s not even close. It’s $1.5M less per season than his teammate Leon Draisaitl, and $4.5M less than the record-setting deal signed by Minnesota Wild forward Kirill Kaprizov last week, eight years at $17M per season.

McDavid made his decision Monday morning and then the contract details were done in a matter of hours.

Winning

It has been stressful in Edmonton waiting for this contract to get done, however it was worth the wait as the best player in the world will be wearing the Oilers’ crest for at least the next five seasons.

McDavid personally broke this news with his own post on social media today, saying “Our journey here continues” with two heart emojis in the Oilers colours.

The biggest priority for McDavid has been winning, and he’ll get the chance to continue his pursuit of the Stanley Cup alongside fellow elite player and friend, Leon Draisaitl.

It was a no brainer to sign with the team that has gone to the Stanley Cup Final two years in a row and is clearly one of the best teams in the NHL.

Next stop: Stanley Cup champion.
