As August wraps up, the Edmonton Oilers have posted their 16 theme games for the upcoming campaign. With a wide range of themes there is an Oilers game for every fan.
Theme games add an extra layer of fun to the normal game-day festivities, but the Black Excellence, Lunar New Year, and Ukranian Heritage themes are absent from this year’s list and are expected to return next season.
The theme games:
- October 8, versus Calgary Flames – Home Opener
- October 28, versus Utah Mammoth – Canadian Armed Forces Appreciation
- October 30, versus New York Rangers – Edmonton Oilers Halloween
- November 1, versus Chicago Blackhawks – Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead)
- November 10, versus Columbus Blue Jackets – Remembrance Day
- November 25, versus Dallas Stars – Hockey Fights Cancer
- December 31, versus Boston Bruins – New Year’s Eve
- January 3, versus Philadelphia Flyers – Next Gen
- January 20, versus New Jersey Devils – Indigenous Celebration
- January 29, versus San Jose Sharks – South Asian Celebration
- February 3, versus Toronto Maple Leafs – Olympic Send Off
- March 17, versus San Jose Sharks – St. Patricks Day
- March 19, versus Florida Panthers – Pride Celebration
- March 28, versus Anaheim Ducks – Celebration of Oil Country
- March 31, versus Seattle Kraken – Women in Sport
- April 13, versus Colorado Avalanche – Fan Appreciation Night
Although it’s not quite the 2023 Heritage Classic vibes that the two teams squared off in a couple of years ago, a home opener against the Calgary Flames never fails to disappoint.
Additionally the Olympic send-off game against the Toronto Maple Leafs looks to provide a early look at some prime Olympic squad stars with Auston Matthews (USA), Connor McDavid (Canada), Leon Draisaitl (Germany), and William Nylander (Sweden) all expected to play.
Notable missing themes include the 2023’s “Shirts Off Our Back” game, “Hockey Talks for Mental Health,” and 2022’s “Welcoming New Canadians” game.
