The Edmonton Oilers have made a transaction today, as they have claimed forward Kasperi Kapanen off waivers from the St. Louis Blues.
Kapanen who is 28 years old, has only appeared in 10 games for the Blues this season, scoring a goal and recording a -6 differential.
Kapanen signed a one-year, $1 million contract with the Blues on July 1st. He was drafted in the first round in 2014 by the Pittsburgh Penguins and has played 470 NHL games since, scoring 85 goals and 209 points in his career. Kapanen has been a part of the Blues organization for the last three seasons.
His recent season totals haven’t been close to the numbers he was putting up when his career first started. The Oilers will likely view Kapanen as another option for their bottom-six as more depth in that area never hurts.
The move comes as the Oilers are in action today against the Ottawa Senators at Canadian Tire Centre at 5PM Mountain Time. Edmonton currently stands fifth in the Pacific Division sporting a 9-8-2 record.
