Edmonton Oilers name Stan Bowman as their new general manager and EVP of Hockey Ops

The Edmonton Oilers officially named former Chicago Blackhawks GM, Stan Bowman, their new General Manager on Wednesday, July 24. This comes after Bowman was reinstated on July 1 by the NHL after being banned for his role in the Chicago Blackhawks 2010 sexual assault scandal.

A controversial move to say the least.

Changes in Edmonton’s front office

This announcement also comes after the Oilers decided to move on from Hockey Hall of Famer, Ken Holland, by not renewing his contract for next season. This announcement also ends CEO of Hockey Operations Jeff Jackson’s brief fill-in as Oilers GM this summer.

Jackson built up a ton of goodwill early this offseason with his shrewd moves in the general manager’s chair. However reports were that he did not want to be in that position full-time and chose a different and more controversial path.

The Oilers media is trying to smooth things over.

But the general sentiment around many other fans in Oil Country and the hockey world are displeased with this move, as there are plenty of other deserving candidates in the field.
