The Edmonton Oilers tender qualifying offers to five players

With the 2024 NHL Draft over and free agency less than a day away, there remain a few pieces of the puzzle left to get in order before the summer starts for the Edmonton Oilers.

One of those is sorting out their restricted free agents and whether they would receive their qualifying offers.

The team announced Sunday morning that they had qualified five players and left two for unrestricted free agency.

The Edmonton Oilers’ qualifying offers

The five players who have received offers are:

  • James Hamblin (F)
  • Dylan Holloway (F)
  • Raphael Lavoie (F)
  • Philip Broberg (D)
  • Noel Hoefenmayer (D)

No surprises for a lot of the names there. Holloway and Broberg played a significant role on the Oilers’ Stanely Cup playoff run this season, with Broberg reinventing himself from trade request to consistent top-four minutes. Both players are going to have significant future roles with the team.

Hamblin had a season to remember with the Oilers while also playing a large role with the Bakersfield Condors. Alongside Lavoie and Hoefenmayer they provide the organization with some solid depth moving forward.

The players that did not receive qualifying offers were:

  • Carter Savoie (F)
  • Ryan Fanti (G)

A bit more on the surprising end for both players, but sometimes a player’s time with an organization simply comes to an end. Both players didn’t look like they were going to get an NHL shot anytime soon, so this may work out well for both parties.

Up next is free agency

The team’s focus now shifts to free agency tomorrow, with a long list of to-do items on that front too. We’ll see how much this team takes to the “running it back” route or if they’re feeling they need more tweaks to their roster.
