  • The first period was back and forth as both teams scored twice with two lead changes in it.
  • With Connor McDavid and Nathan MacKinnon in the Art Ross race, McDavid made ground on MacKinnon but neither really made ground on Nikita Kucherov.
  • Evander Kane broke his goalless drought with two gritty goals.

All situations Corsi

  • As the game progressed, the Oilers pulled further away from the Avalanche, both in shots and in goals.
  • Despite there being eight total power plays, no goals were scored on the man advantage for either team. Looking at the Corsi in each power play, neither team had a single particularly dominant power play.
  • The Oilers were able to drive to the net and get the better of the Avalanche’s defence. Most of Edmonton’s shots and goals came in the slot.
  • On the other end of the ice, Edmonton’s defence kept the Avalanche’s offence at bay as Colorado did not get into the net-front areas at all.

5v5 Corsi

  • With so much of the game being played away from 5v5, the results at even strength were still in Edmonton’s favour.
  • Edmonton simply dominated in the offensive zone. Their 5v5 results look better than most teams’ power plays, and they accomplished this against the Avalanche no less.
