Game events

  • The Oilers put up 38 shots but were only able to score twice against Jordan Binnington.
  • Edmonton was also credited for a whopping 20 takeaways.
  • However, the Blues had the edge in faceoffs as well as hits, the latter bringing a more physical game to Edmonton.

  • The Oilers had the early lead and held it for the first half of the game, but were down a goal early in the third.
  • There were goalie interference challenges on both ends of the ice that didn’t turn out in Edmonton’s favour. That would probably be enough to be the difference maker here given this game went to overtime.

All situations Corsi

  • The Oilers had more shot attempts by the game’s end, but they were trailing the Blues for a good chunk of it.
  • The worst part of the game for the Oilers is clearly seen right in overtime. They had possession and shots but the Blues quickly ended it when the puck went the other way.
  • Both teams had high-danger shots, but the Blues only scored on one of them: the Brandon Saad breakaway on the overtime line change. Stuart Skinner was otherwise solid against the net-front shots he faced.

5v5 Corsi

  • The Oilers were ultimately the better team at 5v5. Edmonton had several instances of relentless 5v5 pressure but were unable to score more than their two goals.
  • The Oilers took a strangely high number of shots behind the goal line, even at 5v5.
  • It wasn’t as strong an offensive 5b5 game as Edmonton is used to playing which factored into them not being able to score more than two goals.
