All situations Corsi

  • As mentioned, the Capitals scored on their first two shots. However, them tying up the game didn’t last long as the Oilers responded right away to restore a lead.
  • Edmonton was better throughout the game as their strong open was too much for the Capitals to overcome. After the Oilers’ third goal, the Capitals didn’t muster much of anything in the first period in response.
  • Stuart Skinner made a ton of saves from in close as the Oilers’ defence wasn’t great at blocking out the Capitals.
  • Edmonton’s offence however was far superior compared to the Capitals. All of the Oilers’ goals came from in close shots with three coming right in or at the crease.

5v5 Corsi

  • The Oilers’ third period momentum swing that culminated in back-to-back goals was nice to see at 5v5.
  • The Capitals had a huge push at the end of the game but Skinner was steady in net.
  • Both teams were able to get high-danger shots at 5v5, but only the Oilers were able to score them.
