The Edmonton Oilers were in a high-scoring tilt versus the visiting Boston Bruins. The game saw Boston go up by scores of 1–0, 4–1, and 5–4, but Edmonton had an answer for every deficit, tying it up 1–1, 4–4, and 5–5. It was a valiant effort on home ice by the Oilers but the Bruins got the last laugh as they scored the game-winner in overtime.
Charts and observations from the thrilling match are below!
Game events
- The Oilers were all over the puck, posting 44 total shots. They weren’t stingy enough on defence though, as they also gave up 35.
- A pretty large discrepancy in blocks in this game. Had Boston not racked up 24 blocks and the Oilers not missed 25 shots, the Oilers’ shot counter would have blown right up.

- Connor McDavid extended his home point streak to 20 games with his two assists.
- Edmonton’s scored seven total goals in the past two third periods they’ve played—four versus the Arizona Coyotes, and three versus the Bruins in this game.
- Despite scoring five goals, the Oilers unfortunately never led.
All situations Corsi
- The two teams started even in the first period and were tied; however, the Bruins scored three goals in the second period to pull away.
- Score effects or Edmonton effects—whatever you want to call them—came into play and the Oilers flipped the script to be relentless on offence after going down 4–1.
- The Oilers’ third period alone would be good enough to win most games, but Boston’s a tough team and they wouldn’t be so easily beaten.
- Boston’s goals came from all over the ice, which doesn’t make for the best outing for Stuart Skinner.
- The Oilers, on the other hand, their goals all had a very clear trend: high-danger.
5v5 Corsi
- Somehow, only one goal was on the power play. The other nine regulation goals were at 5v5.
- Edmonton’s 5v5 results would be the envy of the league, plain and simple.
- Meanwhile, Edmonton’s defence actually did limit the Bruins from generating too many high-danger chances themselves.
