The Edmonton Oilers were beaten in a game versus St. Louis where one team was simply much better. The Oilers were outplayed, entirely undisciplined, uncharacteristic on many fronts, and it cost them the game.

- The Oilers had the bigger share of shots, and had zero giveaways count against them.
- However, they were not good in the faceoff dot, and their penalty issues equating to eight power plays for St. Louis was horrifically bad.

- Believe it or not, the Oilers actually led this game after one period. However, the Blues’ four-goal middle frame was too much for the Oilers to overcome.
- The Blues scored twice on the power play in the tail end of the second period to pull away.
All situations Corsi
- In terms of shot attempts, the Blues had the edge for much of the game. They opened the game better as their first penalty kill attempt saw them with more shot attempts while Edmonton had nothing. That shift in momentum could have been a huge reason the game turned out the way it did.
- Edmonton tried to spark a comeback to open the third period, but then they fell flat due to more penalty problems.
- Their third goal to try to get back into the game came too little too late.
- On offence, the Oilers were good at getting their high-danger shots. In fact, they were really good.
- However, the were also poor on defence and gave up higher-danger chances to St. Louis and the Blues made the most of their opportunities.
5v5 Corsi
- At 5v5, the game looks very different. That’s expected given most of the game was not played at even strength.
- The Blues were ahead of the Oilers just as long as they needed to be. By the time the third period rolled around, St. Louis was playing to kill the clock as they barely tried at 5v5 to generate offence.
- Edmonton had the better chances at 5v5, which would have been a good strategy for them to adhere to instead of taking eight penalties.
