Connor McDavid named NHL second star of the week ending February 4, 2024

There may not have been any NHL games last week, but Connor McDavid played a key role in all-star weekend and was named the NHL’s second star of the week for his efforts.

As the NHL desperately tries to make their all-star weekend a serious sporting event, this three stars honour is a bit comical. However, if we are going to give out stars for the all-star event, McDavid deserves to be here, no question

If we’re really being honest, McDavid should be the first star. His work to restructure the skills competition added a new element to a traditionally boring night, and despite him winning the event he created, he deserved it. The most skilled player in the NHL won the NHL skills competition. Makes sense!

The all-star weekend is supposed to be entertaining for fans and sponsors, and McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, and every other all-star in Toronto this weekend did a fantastic job delivering exactly that: entertainment.

While this stars award may not mean as much as others for on-ice performance, this one is a deserving award for a player working overtime to grow the game.
