The Edmonton Oilers are doing their best DJ Khaled impression as they’ve added another one. The win streak has extended to 14 games. The last time a 14-game win streak was reached in the NHL was back in the 2009–10 season by the Washington Capitals.
In tying the fifth-longest win streak in NHL history, the Oilers faced the Columbus Blue Jackets. Edmonton was not the better team on the ice for the first two periods, but they were in the third, and that’s all that mattered.

- The Oilers took five penalties but didn’t cede any power play goals.
- Edmonton was sloppy with 26 giveaways compared to the Blue Jackets’ 13.
- Both teams were fairly physical as well.

- Warren Foegele’s goal was his 10th of the season, making him the seventh Oiler to reach this mark.
- Edmonton’s two goals in less than a minute in the third period was the biggest difference maker after they were fairly flat to end the second period.
All situations Corsi
- As mentioned, the Blue Jackets were the better team for the first two periods. This is evidenced by the lengthy flat streaks to open and close the second frame as the Oilers just didn’t offer much.
- However, it was a complete turnaround in the third as the Blue Jackets ran out of the steam and the Oilers took advantage.
- Four goals from in front of the net is about as Oilers brand as it can get. This team is allergic to taking bad shots as their efficiency in getting shots from in close is just too much for most teams to overcome.
- That said, the Oilers didn’t get that many shot attempts off overall in the game, which is uncharacteristic of them.
- On the other end of the ice, the Blue Jackets were able to penetrate the Oilers’ defence, but Stuart Skinner was solid in net.
5v5 Corsi
- A tale of two games here. At 5v5, the first 40 minutes were even more controlled by Columbus, and the final 20 were even more controlled by Edmonton with penalties removed.
- Columbus had a strong game at 5v5 overall but was goalied by Skinner.
