Oilers Game Recaps

Oilers Visual Recap 28: Edmonton swept in season series against the Panthers

The Edmonton Oilers were looking to win against the Florida Panthers to first, bounce back after seeing their winning streak snapped by the Tampa Bay Lightning, and second, to avoid being swept in the season series against Florida—not just team, but the state. Having lost both games against the Tampa Bay Lightning, the Oilers had one more chance against the Panthers.

Unfortunately, things didn’t go right for Edmonton as they dropped the game. A poor opening period had them trailing by three goals. The Oilers couldn’t find their offence and only scored one lone goal in response. Over both season series versus the two Florida teams, the Oilers scored 12 goals but allowed 23 against. For whatever reason, Florida just had Edmonton’s number this year.

From the charts, the game was fairly even outside of the score. While the Oilers did have a good number of opportunities from in close, they didn’t stop the Panthers from getting theirs either. Almost all of the goals in the game were scored from in the slot or close to it, and the Panthers were simply able to beat the Oilers’ goaltending while the Oilers couldn’t do the same. That’s two games in a row where the team just got out-goalied.

Charts from the setback are below!
