Edmonton Oilers recall defender Ben Gleason from the Bakersfield Condors; loan Philip Broberg to AHL

After rumours surfaced earlier this week that Philip Broberg had been granted permission to explore trade options, the Edmonton Oilers’ defender has been loaned to the Bakersfield Condors.

We can only hope this is to get him some much needed playing time as he has spent much of the past few weeks as a healthy scratch.

In his place, Ben Gleason has been recalled from the Condors.

Gleason was a surprise in training camp this preseason as he was a very late cut and nearly made the team for opening night.

With the Condors this season, Gleason has played in 14 games, scoring two goals and nine points.

He will not likely see a lot of playing time as he is taking Broberg’s spot, which was primarily in the press box. Additionally, with the Oilers on such a roll right now, changing the lineup is not something Kris Knoblauch will want to do unless absolutely necessary.

Hopefully for Broberg, the opportunity to actually get some ice time and play a big role in Bakersfield will help his development and possibly even his status within the Oilers organization.
