The Edmonton Oilers appear to have turned the corner. After a lackluster start that still has them clawing their way back from the cellar of the NHL, the Oilers beat the Anaheim Ducks in commanding fashion by an 8-2 margin on Sunday night.
Leading the way are the two superstars, Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, both of whom have not been themselves so far this season. Well, that is changing, as the pair have combined for 19 points over the past four games. That’s what Oilers fans, and NHL fans, have come to expect from the dynamic duo.
First 16 games vs. the past four games
Over the first 16 games of the season, McDavid skated in 14 of them, putting up just 13 points. For his standards this was abysmally low, and not even close to his start last season when at times he flirted with a two points per game average.
Over the past four games though, McDavid has three goals, nine assists, and 12 points.
For Draisaitl, he scored 21 points over the first 16 games of the season, much higher and more expected than McDavid, but still lower than his total from last year in which he finished with 1.6 points per game.
Over Draisaitl’s last four games, he has three goals, four assists, and seven points. That’s good for 1.75 points per game.
Watch out, Western Conference
With McDavid and Draisaitl rolling the way they have over the past week or so, the rest of the West needs to take notice. No team is safe when they’re feeling it, and it sure looks like they’re back to their usual dominating ways.
The Oilers might be in a hole right now, but it won’t take long to dig out of with these two players firing on all cylinders. It’s not even close to over in Oil Country, and the playoffs are well within reach.
