The fifth game of the series was a critical one for both teams. The Edmonton Oilers looked to string together two wins in a row for the first time this series while the Vegas Golden Knights looked to keep their streak of pulling ahead each game.
The Oilers got off to a good start as they led 2–1 midway through the first period, but disaster struck in the second. The Golden Knights scored three goals in 89 seconds turn a one-goal deficit into a multi-goal lead. This chased Stuart Skinner from the net and in came Jack Campbell.
Unfortunately the Oilers couldn’t tie the game up despite pulling themselves within one goal. The Golden Knights put on a possession clinic towards the end of the third and simply didn’t allow any sustained offence for the Oilers, keeping Edmonton’s scoring threats at bay.
