The Edmonton Oilers remain the hottest team in the league, now having picked up their sixth win in a row. The Florida Panthers have won four, two other have three-game streaks, but that’s it. With the season closing out, the Oilers have all the momentum.
With that momentum, they achieved something pretty momentous too. In their 3–1 downing of the Anaheim Ducks, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins picked up his 100th point of the season, joining Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl as the first team to have three players hit the century mark in points since the 1995–96 Pittsburgh Penguins.
In their battle against Anaheim, it was actually a tighter contest that one might have expected. Both teams put up plenty of shot attempts; however, the difference maker was that Edmonton was able to get into the high-danger areas and capitalise on their chances.
The win puts Edmonton firmly ahead of the Los Angeles Kings for second in the Pacific Division, and they’re now just one point back from the Vegas Golden Knights (though the Golden Knights have a game in hand).
Charts from the victory are below.
