The Edmonton Oilers made a second trade today, acquiring defenceman Spencer Stastney from the Nashville Predators in exchange for a 2027 third-round pick.
A minor shakeup on the blueline
With Brett Kulak heading to the Pittsburgh Penguins in the Stuart Skinner trade due to salary cap matching, the Oilers added a replacement left-shot defender to the blueline, and Stastney makes just $825K.
Stastney is a 6’0″ 183lb mobile, two-way defenceman. He put up one goal and 9 points in 30 games with the Predators this season, along with a minus-one rating. That’s not bad for one of the absolute worst teams in the NHL.
He’ll slot in immediately as a regular on the Oilers defence corps.
