Edmonton Oilers playoff odds sink below 50% with slow start

The Edmonton Oilers have been better as of late, but have started the 2025-26 season very poorly. It’s become a trend with this era of Oilers teams to start season off slowly, but this season has felt a bit scarier than previous ones.

Where the Oilers sit in the standings

The Oilers currently sit in fifth place in the Pacific Division, behind the Anaheim Ducks, Seattle Kraken, Los Angeles Kings, and Vegas Golden Knights. With a record of 9-7-4, the Oilers have also played more games than every team above them which isn’t good.

In the playoff race, the Oilers are in the fifth wild card spot and are two points out of WC2 with two extra games played. League wide, the Oilers sit at 23rd overall.

It’s not the rosiest picture midway through November.

The easy answer as to why the Oilers are struggling is defence and goaltending. Overall, the Oilers rank ninth in goal scored but rank 29th in goals against.

Oilers playoff odds

This poor start has resulted in the Oilers playoff odds to sink below 50%.

MoneyPuck.com has assessed the Oilers playoff odds at just 41.4%, which is the 21st best odds on their rankings.

The books haven’t reflected these odds just yet, but it’s likely they will start to adjust their future odds soon. Currently, bet365 has the Oilers at 10.00 to win the Stanley Cup which is the fourth highest favourite on the board.

Is the slump real?

Time will tell whether the opening slump for the Oilers is real or not. Getting Zach Hyman back was huge, and the strong play from Jack Roslovic has been massive for the top six, but the Oilers struggle to keep the puck out of their net and that will sink them if they don’t figure it out.

To their credit, the Oilers are 5-3-2 in their last 10 games, so perhaps a turnaround is coming.

Do you think these playoff odds are legit? Will the Oilers go on a run and make the playoffs like they always do, or is this season different? Let us know in the comments or on social media.
