Breaking: Edmonton Oilers sign coach Kris Knoblauch to a three year contract extension

With the season about to start, the Edmonton Oilers got some business out of the way. They have officially renewed head coach Kris Knoblauch to a three-year contract extension. His current deal was due to expire at the end of this season, and he will now be under contract until the end of the 2028–29 season.

Knoblauch deserves to remain with the Edmonton Oilers

Knoblauch still boasts the Oilers’ best win percentage by a coach in franchise history through his 151 games coached in the regular season. While he is far from the leader in games coached in team history, if he sees out his entire contract, he will be third all-time behind Craig MacTavish and Glen Sather.

Knoblauch is Connor McDavid’s fifth coach in his ten-year career in the league, and has been the one to take him, Leon Draisaitl and the team to the Stanley Cup Finals two seasons in a row. He has seen this team through immense highs and devastating lows, and honestly, if you are going to put your faith in anyone to get this team to the Cup, it makes sense to put it in the guy who has gotten you to within a coin flip not once but twice.
