Oilers News: Edmonton Oilers prospect Roby Jarventie reportedly returning to Finland after 2024–25 season

Not the news we wanted to hear out of Finland regarding one of the top prospects in the Edmonton Oilers organization. Roby Jarventie is reportedly going to head back to Finland at the conclusion of the 2024–25 season.

According to Finnish publication Ilta-Sanomat, the 22-year old forward will be leaving the organization to play for Tappara in the SM-Liiga.

Jarventie was acquired just last offseason in a surprising trade with the Ottawa Senators involving Xavier Bourgault and Jake Chiasson headed the other way. He was immediately one of the highest ranked prospects in the organization due to his skillset and apparent NHL readiness. His ceiling also appeared higher as he was continually getting better each season. The trade seemed like a win.

Unfortunately, Jarventie had struggled with injuries last season that bled into this one as well. To date, he has only played two games in the AHL with the Bakersfield Condors as he recovers from knee injuries. He did, however, have two points in those two games.

He was poised to become a smooth skating power winger with a big frame, but most importantly, an unreal shot that would have turned him into an excellent mid-line goal scorer at the NHL level. Although he wasn’t much of a physical player or playmaker, he still would have found excellent utilization in the Oilers’ lineup.

Jarventie will be headed back to Finland to play on what is the most successful team in Finland, with Tappara having won 20 Finnish league championships. Also of note is that he has two brothers who are both with the Tappara organization. Emil, who has split time this season between the U20 team and the Liiga team. And Max, who is in the developmental system at the U18 level.
