Oilers trim training camp roster again, three more players assigned to AHL Bakersfield

The Edmonton Oilers announced that they have trimmed their roster again today, sending three more players to the AHL’s Bakersfield Condors.

Max Wanner and Noel Hoefenmayer will join the Condors for their training camp on loan from the Oilers, while Ethan de Jong was released from his PTO, but will also join the Condors.

The Oilers’ training camp roster now sits at 27 heading into Wednesday’s preseason tilt in Winnipeg, including 22 forwards, 11 defencemen, and four goalies.

With the number of defencemen fighting for a role in Edmonton, it is not a surprise to see Wanner sent to the AHL. He was the only high impact defensive prospect for the Oilers at the Penticton Young Stars Classic, and looked good in his role. If he continues to trend in the right direction, there is a good chance he earns a look in Edmonton this season. He was our seventh ranked Oilers prospect in the 2024 Oil Rig Prospect Ranking.

Neither de Jong nor Hoefenmayer really moved the needle at camp this year, but it is nice to see forward de Jong get another opportunity with the Condors this season. He wasn’t great last year, with just two points in 14 AHL games, but had 29 points in 41 games with the ECHL’s Fort Wayne Komets.

Hopefully it’s an impact year for all three players.
