Offer sheet leak? Broberg and Holloway removed from Oilers website roster

With the dual offer sheet decision looming, all eyes are on the Edmonton Oilers and what decisions they will make.

The St. Louis Blues signed Oilers youngsters Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg to offer sheets last week, putting the Oilers in a tough financial spot.

The offer sheet details are:

The offers are exactly a dollar below the next compensation tier, as offer sheets usually are. If not matched, the Oilers would receive a third round pick for Holloway, and a second round pick for Broberg.

In the past week, the Oilers have made a few moves to give themselves a bit more flexibility including trading for Vasily Podkolzin from the Vancouver Canucks, and trading Cody Ceci to the San Jose Sharks.

The Oilers are required to make a decision on whether they will match them or not by tomorrow morning at 9:30 AM Eastern Time. We don’t know what decision they will make, but perhaps we have an idea based on information from the Oilers website.

Edmonton Oilers website roster

The official roster for every NHL team is listed on their website. Follow this link to the Oilers roster.

Yesterday, the roster showed both Holloway and Broberg on the list. Today, not the case.

Both players have been removed from the Oilers’ online roster.

This is a very comprehensive roster which includes prospects and depth players, so the exclusion of the two offer sheet players could legitimately point to something.

One clarification courtesy of Kevin McCurdy on Twitter, it appears that all unsigned RFAs have been removed from team’s rosters as of today. A coincidence perhaps, but all these other unsigned RFAs do not currently have NHL contracts, whereas both Holloway and Broberg do. The offer sheet is a nuance, yes, but at the end of the day both of these players are fundamentally in a different situation than all other unsigned RFAs in the league in that they are in fact signed.

This could very well mean that the Oilers are NOT going to match either offer sheet.

We’ll find out tomorrow morning what the official decision is, but we may have a clue.
