The Edmonton Oilers came into Vancouver with full intentions of going up in the series for the first time. They went with Calvin Pickard as the starting goaltenderโwho had a great Game 4โthey made line adjustments, and all things considered, things were going well for them in Game 5… until they didn’t.
Two one-goal leads disappeared on them as the Canucks had an answer for both Oilers goals. Five power plays resulted in a resounding zero percent conversion rate. The second period saw the Vancouver holding Edmonton to just four shots. And a goal with just 33 seconds left in the third put the exclamation point in the mantra of “everything that could go wrong in Game 5, ended up going wrong.”
The series is heading back to Edmonton with the Oilers hoping to push for a Game 7.
