Oilers Game Recaps

Oilers Visual Recap 41: Edmonton reaches third in Pacific at midpoint mark with 12 straight win

The Edmonton Oilers have played 41 games and therefore have reached the midpoint mark of their season. Not too many weeks ago, they were 31st in the NHL. Now, they are third in the Pacific Division. Having separate eight-game and 12-game win streaks before the halfway mark will do that for a team.

The Oilers fought back against the Seattle Kraken and picked up their 12th straight, being the first team since 2016–17 with a win streak of at least 12 games.

Charts and observations from the historic win are below!

Game events

  • The Oilers had a better share in shots and were dominant in faceoffs.
  • The Kraken, meanwhile, were highly physical with a whopping 36 hits to the Oilers’ 11.

  • Two power play goals came in a timely fashion for the Oilers as the first tied the game and the second sealed the victory.

All situations Corsi

  • The game flow was fairly even between the two teams and the Kraken actually ended up with more shot attempts than the Oilers.
  • Neither team had particularly long stretches of momentum in the game as it was quite back-and-forth overall; however, the Oilers got their game-winner on a nice stretch of play with sustained pressure after they tied it up.
  • A broken record is going to say the same thing again and again: The Oilers are really good at getting high-danger shots and they were rewarded with goals.
  • The Kraken were largely kept to the outside as well as they didn’t generate much high-danger offence.

5v5 Corsi

  • The game was even more even overall in terms of 5v5 shot attempts.
  • Despite the close shot attempts, the Oilers still shot way more pucks from in close compared to the Kraken. This is clearly a winning recipe for the streaking Oilers.
