Oilers Game Recaps

Oilers Visual Recap 39: Edmonton takes down Montreal to set new franchise record win streak

After tying the franchise record for the longest win streak, the Edmonton Oilers had a chance to hit the first double-digit win streak in the entire history of the team. To do so, they had to face the Montreal Canadiens. For the second time in as many games, the Oilers needed overtime, but were able to come out on top yet again. A new franchise record was secured on Connor McDavid’s birthday.

Charts and observations from the historic win are below!

Game events

  • The Oilers posted over 40 shots, a fairly common occurrence for them.
  • Montreal had 24 blocks to their credit, otherwise the Oilers’ overall shot totals would have been even higher.

  • The Oilers trailed for nearly 40 minutes and never led, but it was still enough to get the win!

All situations Corsi

  • After the Canadiens scored on the opening power play, the Oilers slowly but surely wore down Montreal over the game. They started to pull away and put forth sustained offensive pressure as the game went on while Montreal just turtled with long stretches without anything at all.
  • Edmonton’s offence continues to be best-in-league as their high-danger opportunities came aplenty.
  • On defence, the Oilers were pretty good at preventing the Canadiens from getting too many high-danger chances of their own.

5v5 Corsi

  • At 5v5, the game was entirely controlled by Edmonton. The final tally had Edmonton nearly doubling Montreal.
  • The total of 62 5v5 shot attempt averages out to over one per minute, but when accounting for penalties, the average goes up even higher to over 1.35 shot attempts per minute of 5v5.
  • The shot plots at 5v5 show an even starker contrast as the even strength game was all Edmonton. Montreal hardly showed up.
