In a dazzling display of offence, the Edmonton Oilers secured a resounding 8–2 victory against the Anaheim Ducks at Rogers Place. The game was marked by stellar performances from key players, with no other than Connor McDavid leading the charge. McDavid’s night included a goal and four assists, making it two straight games with at least four points.
The Oilers initially faced separate 1–0 and 2–1 deficits in the first period, with Max Jones scoring both goals for the Ducks. However, the Oilers closed the period leading 4–2 with their shots finding the back of the net at a highly efficient clip.
As the game progressed, the Oilers asserted their dominance, scoring seven consecutive goals. Zach Hyman continued to be one of Edmonton’s best scorers, contributing two goals and an assist, bringing his season total to 11 goals. James Hamblin added to the offensive onslaught with his second career NHL goal, while Vincent Desharnais potted a couple of assists.
Overall, the Oilers’ power play converted twice, but it was a game that Edmonton didn’t need the power play to win, with both power play goals coming late in the game when victory was already certain.
McDavid’s exceptional play marked the ninth time in his career that he scored five or more points in a game. The victory—the Oilers’ second consecutive win—sets the stage for their upcoming matchup against the Vegas Golden Knights.
