Edmonton Oilers sign Brady Stonehouse to three-year entry-level contract

On October 5, the Edmonton Oilers announced the signing of prospect Brady Stonehouse to a three-year deal.

The entry-level contract will take Stonehouse through to the end of the 2025–26 season. The team has yet to release contract details aside from that.

Who is Brady Stonehouse

Stonehouse—who has returned to the Ottawa 67s of the OHL for his final season of junior eligibility—was a development camp invitee of the Oilers. He featured in the Young Stars Classic and scored a goal against the Calgary Flames. Naturally, his performance at development camp was impressive, as Stonehouse defied expectations in earning a three-year entry-level contract less than a month after camp started.

An undrafted player, Stonehouse is looking to build off of a career season in the OHL where he notched 37 goals (which led the team) and 57 points in 68 games. The two most obvious traits that are evident when watching Stonehouse are a fairly heavy shot and a willingness to forecheck. There is a bit of bite, a lot of tenacity, and definitely more of a shooter’s mentality than that of a playmaker.

What’s next for Stonehouse

Stonehouse is eligible to play for Team Canada at the upcoming 2024 U20 World Juniors, though he will be far from top billing on such a team. If Stonehouse is selected, it will have come after a torrid scoring pace to start his OHL season, and will likely be pigeonholed into a fourth line energy role.

As for his upcoming year with the 67s, he was recently named one of the team’s assistant captains.
