The Edmonton Oilers pulled off their biggest comeback of the season in Game 4 against the Los Angeles Kings and were hoping to carry that momentum into Game 5 on home ice.
They absolutely did that.
The Oilers came out of the gates hot, scoring three goals in the first period from Evander Kane, Leon Draisaitl, and Brett Kulak. Although they would let the Kings back into the game with two goals in that same opening frame, the Oilers still felt mostly in control of the game.
Luckily, unlike other games this series, the Oilers would shut the door quickly on any potential comebacks by scoring three more goals over the next two periods to extend their lead to 6–2. This included poor Zach Hyman scoring a goal off of his face. The Kings would add another goal late, but never truly worried the Oilers.
Stuart Skinner got the start and bounced back from his Game 4 performance, and with it gave the Oilers their first lead of the series with a chance to eliminate the Kings on the road on Saturday.
Charts from the huge win are below.
