Facing a tests against the Pacific Division’s top team in the Vegas Golded Knights, the Edmonton Oilers were hoping to continue their momentum. Both teams have won more often than they’ve lost as of late, and it would be a great litmus test for the Oilers.
Things got off to a bad start as the first shot by Vegas was a goal. However, the Oilers responded shortly after. In fact that was the theme for the game—the Golden Knights would score first, and the Oilers would have an answer. Over the first 60 minutes, that happened three times, which mean that game needed overtime to solve.
After being caught in their own zone for an extended period of time, the Oilers just weren’t able to effectively play defence nor clear the puck, and that was the last turn of momentum that cost them the game. The Golden Knights scored on their extended offensive zone time and ended the game.
Charts from the overtime setback are below.
