The Edmonton Oilers took on the Toronto Maple Leafs on home ice. The Oilers entered this game without a regulation win against the Maple Leafs in their past 10 meetings. Newly acquired Mattias Ekholm made his Oilers debut, and Stuart Skinner started in goal.
The Oilers dominated all night long. They had multiple goals disallowed, and still won by a 5-2 margin. Connor McDavid scored multiple goals for the fifth consecutive game, within striking distance of the team record of six games. Ekholm shone in his debut, putting up an incredible defensive performance on one end, chipping in on the scoresheet at the other end, and looking exactly like the player the Oilers have been searching for. And, if that wasn’t enough, you can add in a fight between Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Justin Holl in which the Oilers pivot came out on top.
It was a solid win for a solid team; first place in the West is within striking distance.
