The Edmonton Oilers looked to bounce back from a loss with a game against the Arizona Coyotes. On paper, this was a very easy matchup for the Oilers as the Coyotes sit in second-last place in the entire NHL, and don’t have a very strong defence corps. The Oilers tend to feast on these types of teams, and that’s exactly what happened in this contest (if you can even call it that).
It was all Oilers, all game long. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Derek Ryan scored in the first period. Leon Draisaitl, Nugent-Hopkins, and Brett Kulak scored in the second period. Klim Kostin, Connor McDavid, and McDavid again scored in the third.
The Coyotes added a couple goals but it was a beatdown by the Oil. A dominant win, exactly as it should have been. It was a bit concerning that Evan Bouchard and Jesse Puljujarvi did not register a point in an eight-goal game, but when the team is clicking like this, it’s hard to complain.
It was also telling to see that Stuart Skinner was in net for the Oilers. With an opponent like the Coyotes, this would have been the perfect game to help get Jack Campbell back on track, but that will have to wait for another night.
Next on the docket is a bout with the Minnesota Wild on Friday night.
