Oilers Game Recaps

Oilers Visual Recap 13: Edmonton loses battle of star players in tough loss to Capitals

The Edmonton Oilers looked to get back into the win column on Monday night, on the road facing the Washington Capitals. A battle of two teams with star-studded rosters, the Oilers hoped to stop their losing streak on the first game of their four-game road trip.

The Capitals jumped out to a 2–0 lead just over 20 minutes into the game before Connor McDavid got the Oilers on the board with his 13th of the season. It was a back-and-forth affair from there, both teams trading goals right up to the final buzzer. Unfortunately, the Capitals scored the eventual winner with just under two minutes left off a gorgeous between-the-legs power play feed from Alex Ovechkin to Evgeny Kuznetsov. Washington held on for a 5–4 win, despite Ryan Nugent-Hopkins making it interesting with just over a minute left in regulation.

The Oilers fall to 7–6–0. They’ll look to snap a three game slide on the second half of the back-to-back against the Tampa Bay Lightning tonight.
