A Saturday afternoon game saw the Edmonton Oilers matching up against the Dallas Stars. For whatever reason, the Oilers just did not seem quite up to the task of playing matinee hockey, whereas the Stars definitely did. The visitors ended up overpowering Edmonton as the game went on.
The first period was close but the Stars got up to a 1–0 lead. The second was a bad 20 minutes of hockey as the Stars added three more goals while the Oilers managed just one.
Finally in the third, the Oilers started to get back into the game and scored early to bring the score to 4–2, but they ultimately ceded two more goals to give the Stars captain a hat trick. It was an ugly one and not the outcome the Oilers wanted at all, 6–2 was the final score.
