Oilers Game Recaps

Oilers Visual Recap 5: Binnington and the Blues keep Edmonton scoreless

The Edmonton Oilers hosted the St. Louis Blues at Rogers place on Saturday night. Due to the NHL schedule, the Blues had only played two games so far and were undefeated heading into their third. The Oilers wanted to prevent that from happening in what’s already shaping into an interesting Pacific Division playoff race.

However, the Blues got on the board early on a power play goal, and the game would remain 1–0 for the visitors for nearly the rest of the game. It’d be a third period empty netter that doubled the Blues’ lead, which cemented the final score at 2–0. Both goalies were solid in net, but that early St. Louis goal was the difference maker in the goaltending battle.

It was the first time the high-octane Oilers offence was shutout since February 8 last season. There were more positives to take out of this loss though, and the Oilers can keep building on their system.
