How the Edmonton Oilers have answered their goaltending questions

For the Edmonton Oilers, it seems like the fans and media have been consistently talking about the goaltending situation and if the team really does have it figured out. With this being a topic that is discussed pretty much year after year, what do the Oilers need to do to find that right fit or “the” guy, because they have lost in back-to-back Stanley Cup Finals and have not been able to win with the tandems that they have had? It is hard to come up with an answer or say much right now, but I do believe that the Oilers may have finally found their solution.

If you are asking me to prove it, there are a couple of things that I can look at that will explain my reasoning. First off, Edmonton just played their two potential key guys in their back-to-back games, and Connor Ingram and Tristan Jarry both earned shutouts as the Oilers outscored their opposition 11โ€“0 in those two games. Tristan Jarry earned a 31-save shutout on Saturday, January 17, against the Vancouver Canucks, while Connor Ingram earned a 27-save shutout on Sunday, January 18, against the St. Louis Blues.

Yes these two teams are weaker opponents and are currently ranked 29th and 32nd in the league standings, but as a team, being able to earn back-to-back shutouts is a good sign of what we could and will want to see more of from Edmonton. Really, it is this level of goaltending and consistency that would help give the Oilers another chance to make it back to the Stanley Cup Finals for the third year in a row and potentially even win the Stanley Cup.

Connor Ingram is the key to success

Connor Ingram was called up from the Edmonton Oilers AHL affiliate team, the Bakersfield Condors, in relief of Tristan Jarry before he returned. Ingram played his first game this season against the Vegas Golden Knights on December 21, and in only nine total games played so far this season, he has actually proven statistically to be the Oilers’ best goalie. With a 5โ€“3โ€“1 record so far, 2.22 goals against, and a .917 save percentage, Ingram has done very well for Edmonton.

With the way that Ingram has been playing for the Oilers so far this season, and how consistent he has been, he might have already proved that he could be the missing link and the key for the Oilers in the postseason. In the playoffs, if Edmonton only needs one more win to move on, Ingram could be that guy who is called upon to lock it down and help the team earn that win. Although he is a younger guy with very limited experience in the playoffs, I do believe that he has the potential to shine the brightest on that stage.

Tristan Jarry can be relied upon

Tristan Jarry was picked up by the Edmonton Oilers from the Pittsburgh Penguins on December 12, 2025, and this saw the Oilers say goodbye to Stuart Skinner, who was the guy who helped bring them to their two straight Cup Finals. Jarry played his first game for Edmonton this season against the Toronto Maple Leafs a day later and helped the team win by a final score of 6โ€“3. In only five games as an Oiler so far, Jarry has done really well, with a 4โ€“1 record, 2.58 goals against, and a .907 save percentage.

When you look at the way that Jarry has been playing for the Oilers so far, you can say that he has not been amazing by any means, but he has helped the team in a big way, and it shows with only one loss in five games. Jarry does not have a lot of playoff experience under his belt (only eight games played in his career), but even with his numbers during his playoff time with Pittsburgh not being great, the Edmonton Oilers are a different team, and he also has some very good players in front of him. This could help Jarry build some more confidence and prove that he can be relied upon in the playoffs to help bring the Oilers as far as possible and maybe even to the top.

The goalie question has been answered

The Edmonton Oilers have Calvin Pickard, whom they could look at for the playoffs, but with Connor Ingram and newly acquired Tristan Jarry, I now think that their goaltending questions may have finally been answered. In all honesty, it is still too early to say, but when you look at the statistics and how the Oilers are doing right now, you can not look past that.

Ingram and Jarry do not have much playoff experience, but when you are a goalie, and your forwards and defencemen can play with more trust and confidence in you because of the saves that they know you will make, the questions from the media and fans have been answered right then and there.

As the rest of the 2025โ€“26 season rolls on and the second half finishes up, the Edmonton Oilers will be looking to continue to build some of their systems and improve some of their defensive play as well. When the season is all said and done and the playoffs come into frame, with the goalies that Edmonton has and having that big question pretty much answered, there is a legit shot that the Oilers make it far in the playoffs and back to the Stanley Cup Final. It will not be easy, but can they do it? We will find out.

Oilers Fans! I am asking you, with Connor Ingram and Tristan Jarry as the most likely duo, have the Edmonton Oilers finally answered their goaltending questions? Let us know in the comments.
