The Edmonton Oilers finished a mini two-game road trip and had an ugly week in the process. Starting week #5, the Oilers found themselves in Jazz/Blues city, playing against one of the worst teams in the NHL right now, the St. Louis Blues.
How this week’s games played out
Edmonton Oilers at St. Louis Blues
The Oilers started their two-game road trip with a loss and went 0–2 in the process. The Oilers captain was very solid in this game and reached 1100 career points, and was also the fourth fastest NHL player to do so. The goaltending was not great, with Calvin Pickard only finishing the game with a save percentage of .864.
Edmonton walked away with a 3–2 regulation loss, with goals from Jack Roslovic and Andrew Mangiapane. Edmonton was leading 2–0 early in the second period, but unfortunately could not keep the lead. The Oilers outshot the Blues 26–22.
Edmonton Oilers at Dallas Stars
Next up on the week, the Oilers finished up their mini road trip against one of their Conference rivals, the Dallas Stars. There were quite a few goals scored in this game, with Edmonton ending up losing in the shootout by a final score of 4–3.
The Oilers received their goals from three different scorers: Vasily Podkolzin, Leon Draisaitl, and Connor McDavid. Dallas outshot Edmonton 27–26 and the Oilers have struggled to show a bit more depth scoring. McDavid was the third star of the game, thanks to two points (one goal and one assist).
Colorado Avalanche at Edmonton Oilers
Game three in week five and the final game, saw the Oilers come face-to-face with the Colorado Avalanche at Rogers Place. Edmonton was nowhere to be found in this game and both of their goalies were not up to speed. The Oilers lost a forgettable game with a final score 9–1.
The Oilers received their only goal of the game from their best player and the current best in the world, Connor McDavid. He shined in this game and it seems like his season is slowly getting back up to speed. Colorado outshot Edmonton 34–24 and again, got close to mercy ruling a team that has made back-to-back Stanley Cup Finals.

Edmonton Oilers schedule for the week of November four to November 10
Next up on the Edmonton Oilers’ schedule, will see them play one game at home, before heading on a seven-game road trip. With four games this week, the Oilers are set to play these four games in six days and will match up against the Columbus Blue Jackets, Philadelphia Flyers, and the Carolina Hurricanes.
Columbus Blue Jackets at Edmonton Oilers, Monday November 9
The Oilers’ first game of week five is going to take place at home against one of worst teams in the NHL and, who already are 28 in the league, the Columbus Blue Jackets. They were once a team that had decent potential, but now, its a struggle for that team to even win one game. Columbus at this point, would probably like to get back to the playoffs,
The Columbus Blue Jackets are off a a very rough start this season, as they currently find themselves sitting at .500, with an 7–7–0 record through their first fourteen games of the season, which currently finds them 31 across the entire league. Kirill Marchenko is buzzing right now, as he is sitting at over a point per game right now. Marchenko had a breakout season last year, and he has eight goals and eight assists for 16 points (14 games to start the season.)
Edmonton Oilers at Philadelphia Flyers, Wednesday November 12
The Oilers’ second game of regular season week five will see them match up against a team, who at the moment, finds themselves 15 across the league and in a wild card spot.
Last season, the Oilers finished with one win and one loss, thanks to a single home loss and a single road loss. The only win happened on October 15, 2024 at home. In that game against Philadelphia, the Flyers were outshot 31–30 and Leon Draisaitl, assisted by Connor McDavid, was able to score the game winning goal with 4:40 remaining in the overtime period.
Edmonton Oilers at Columbus Blue Jackets, Thursday November 13
The Oilers’ third game of week five and second of their newest seven game road-trip, will see them match up against the Columbus Blue Jackets yet again. With the Oilers set to face them at home tonight, its hard to say right now, how they will fare about playing the same team for the second time this week.
Last season, the Oilers finished with two wins and two losses, with both wins taking place at Rogers Place in Edmonton. The only losses happened on March 7, 2024 and October 18, 2024, with the Blue Jackets winning 6–1 and 4–2 respectively. The Oilers ended up finding themselves outscored 10–3 in those games and shouldn’t have answer how and when you decide what to do and try to keep yourself busy.
Edmonton Oilers at Carolina Hurricanes, Saturday November 15
Does this bring back any memories from 2006? I will not go into any detail, as I do not want to hurt too many feelings. The Oilers fourth and final game of week five, will see the team stop by Carolina and face off. The Hurricanes are currently tied for second in the NHL based on season points. The New Jersey Devils and Montreal Canadiens have somehow figured out how to get back to the final.
Last season, the Oilers finished the series with a single win and a single loss and the loss took place at home. The loss took place on October 22, 2024, with the final score being a 3–2 victory for Carolina, all on the hands of Sebastian Aho. Edmonton was able to outshoot the Hurricane 35–33 and we will see if they can bring that heat or more energy to this game as well.
The Oilers have seemed to be getting consistent offence and some very questionable defensive plays. Edmonton is either going to look for a new goalie, or play everything out by ear and see how it plays out (which realistically would not be smart). Oilers fans! Let me know what your thoughts are on the week ahead!/
