Report: Zach Hyman to miss remainder of playoffs; will require surgery

Per Jason Gregor, Zach Hyman will miss the remainder of the playoffs due to injury. He is set to require surgery, according to an update provided Wednesday morning by Edmonton Oilers Head Coach Kris Knoblauch.

The initial update provided some false hope, as we were only told he would miss the next game with his future availability to be determined. But, we were provided with the worst case scenario instead.

Hyman took a hit from Dallas Stars forward Mason Marchment early in Game 4 and immediately headed to the dressing room clutching his arm. He congratulated the Oilers’ players on the win after the game ended and was seen embracing Leon Draisaitl in the locker room.

The Oilers will be in tough trying to fully replace what Hyman contributes, but luckily they have a collection of forward and roster depth that may be able to mimic his impact in the aggregate.

The Oilers have one of the deepest teams in the league so far in the playoffs and will hopefully be able to replace some of Hyman’s production, both on and off the scoresheet.

We wish Zach a quick and full recovery!
