The Edmonton Oilers might be beating everyone in their path right now, but this game was a massive test against the defending Stanley Cup champion Colorado Avalanche. It’s this team that poses the biggest threat to the Oilers advancing to the Stanley Cup final, and it was a showdown that didn’t disappoint.
Despite getting swept by the Avalanche in last year’s Western Conference final, the Oilers put forth a dominant effort against them last night. They led in almost every statistical category, led in underlying possession numbers, and deserved to win this game.
It took an Evan Bouchard overtime power play marker to seal the victory, but the Oilers took care of business in what should be a massive confidence boost with the playoffs around the corner.
Every team in the league should take notice of the Oilers right now; they are looking downright unbeatable.
Charts from the big win are below.
