Oilers Game Recaps

Oilers Visual Recap 63: Nugent-Hopkins picks up four points as Edmonton blows out Winnipeg

Heading into the final hours of the 2023 NHL Trade Deadline, the Edmonton Oilers were quiet. Not because they were sitting idle, but because they got their moves done in advance of the afternoon deadline. The Oilers instead were focused on the task of the day which was to play a good hockey game and gain better positioning in the Pacific Division.

The two Western Conference wild card teams met as the Oilers hosted the Winnipeg Jets. Right out of the gates it was all Edmonton. Scoring five straight goals over the first 43 minutes of the game, the Oilers were looking dominant both on the scoresheet and everywhere else on the ice.

The Jets scored a few goals in the third but it was far too late as Edmonton cruised to victory. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins set another career-high as he reached the 30-goal mark for the first time in his career, besting his previous high of 28 goals back in 2018–19. McDavid’s goal streak ended but he still picked up three assists, two of which were primary—this takes his point total to 121 on the season.

Charts from the game are below.
