On his 26th birthday, Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid found himself playing hockey and he made sure his team would be on the winning side by the end of the game. He opened the scoring for the Oilers and watched as Edmonton scored seven straight goals. Toward the end of the game, the San Jose Sharks were able to break Jack Campbell’s shutout bid, but it was a game that had everything going right for the Oilers.
Picking up two power play goals as well as one assist, McDavid became the first player to reach the 80-point threshold this season. He now sits at 82 points.
It was a big win for the Oilers who needed to keep themselves in the playoff race, and these two points gained were easily considered necessities. The team got the job done as they celebrated their captain’s birthday.
