Oilers Game Recaps

Oilers Visual Recap 3: Brickwalled by Buffalo’s goaltender

The Edmonton Oilers continued their season-long six-game homestand with Game 3 inviting the Buffalo Sabres to Rogers Place. Stuart Skinner earned his first start of the season after an outstanding showing against the Calgary Flames.

The Oilers played a good, even great game, creating high-danger chance after chance through the full 60 minutes. However, the Oilers couldn’t crack open the gates as Sabres goaltender Eric Comrie kept the puck out of the net for much of the night. The Sabres on the other hand were extremely opportunistic with their chances and scored goals Skinner could hardly be faulted on.

The Sabres went into the third period playing preventative hockey as they essentially stopped trying to score. Instead, the Oilers did everything in their might to make it a one-goal game. It wasn’t until there was under two minutes left that the Oilers finally broke through. However, it was too little too late and an empty-netter against locked in the Edmonton’s second loss of the year.
